Printable series tracker

What goes on a printable series tracker?

Keep one sheet per series with the reading order, a tick for each book you finish, the date you finished it, and one line of your own about where things stood at the end. Before starting the next book, read that line. If the gap was long, use a recap: Kindle Recaps for Kindle series in the US, or a page-locked recap app for supported print and audio titles.

Why series are hard to keep up with

Long series are released over years. By the time book four comes out, book three is a blur. Some readers reread the whole series; most do not have time, and an ADHD reader who stalls on the reread may never reach the new book at all.

The tracker below gives you a single place for the order, your progress, and your own one-line notes. It contains no plot summaries from us, only what you write.

How to use it

  1. Write the series name and the reading order. Check the author's or publisher's site for the order; novellas and prequels often confuse it.
  2. Tick each book when you finish it and add the date.
  3. In the last column, write one line about where things stood at the end, in your own words.
  4. If you stop mid-book, write the page in the Stopped at column and use our reading log for that book.
  5. Before starting the next book, read your line for the previous one.

When your notes are not enough

If years have passed, your own line may not be enough. Amazon's Kindle Recaps were designed for this: "Previously on" style refreshers for books you have already read in a series, on Kindle in the US. For print and audiobook readers, Magic Bookmark's recaps stop at your exact place within a book for its supported titles; its catalog includes several long series popular on BookTok. Check that your title is listed before buying a credit.

We do not publish plot recaps of specific books on this site. Recaps of a whole earlier book can contain spoilers for things you have not reached; when you use any recap, check what it covers before reading.

Track in an app instead?

Book trackers handle series lists well. The StoryGraph logs every format and its free tier covers tracking and goals. As with the reading log, the app can tell you that you finished book three; only your note can tell you what you thought mattered at the end.

Printing tips

The tracker prints on one page with fourteen rows, which covers most series. Print it once per series.

A worked example (invented, not from a real series)

For an invented five-book series, a finished row might read: No. 2, The Salt Road, finished 2026-03-14, where things stood: the crew split up, Ana kept the map. A stalled row might read: No. 3, stopped at page 188, with the last column left blank until you finish.

Notice what is not there: no summary of the whole book, no list of every event. One line, in your words, written the day you finished. It takes thirty seconds and can save you a reread.

Keep it with the books

Tape the sheet inside the cover of the first book in the series, or keep a photo of it in an album named after the series. The tracker only works if you can find it on the day the next book arrives.
