Magic Bookmark's free start: first credit or two-week trial?
Is Magic Bookmark free to try?
Yes. The App Store listing, checked on 3 November 2026, says your first Bookmark Credit is free, and the company website's FAQ describes a two-week free trial with unlimited books, no credit card and nothing that auto-renews. Check which offer the app shows you when you install it, and use the free window on the book you most want to restart.

What the two sources say
Magic Bookmark charges per book rather than by subscription: one Bookmark Credit covers one book, with unlimited recaps, cast list and chat for that book. The App Store listing's description says each book needs one credit, that credits never expire, and that your first credit is free.
The website's pricing FAQ, checked the same day, says you start with a two-week free trial: unlimited books, no credit card, and nothing auto-renews. After that, one credit covers one book for good. We could not tell from the outside whether every new user sees the trial, so treat the App Store wording as the floor: at least one book free.
Prices after the free start
| Pack | Price | Per book |
|---|---|---|
| 1 credit | $4.99 | $4.99 |
| 5 credits | $19.99 | $4.00 |
| 10 credits | $34.99 | $3.50 |
| 50 credits | $69.99 | $1.40 |
How to use a free window well
- Before installing, pick the books you have stalled on. Check each title is supported by searching it in the app.
- Start with the book you most want to finish, not the one you feel you should.
- Set your page by photo, page number, or for audiobooks the last phrase you heard, then read the recap and the cast list.
- If you are on a trial, try a second stalled book too, and the chat feature, so you know what you would be paying for.
- Note what you would actually use it for. If the answer is twice a year, singles at $4.99 are fine; if it is every month, a pack is cheaper per book.
What has not changed
The limits are the same: supported titles only, iPhone only (Android is on the roadmap), English only. Version 1.1 on 21 October 2026 added audiobook support, which we covered in our audiobook note. Our card on the reading shelf stays WORTH A LOOK because it is a listing-based check, and the Magic Bookmark page has the full picture, including the credit math.
Check your title before the clock starts
A free window is only useful if your book is covered. Magic Bookmark supports a growing catalog that started with romance, fantasy, romantasy, YA, sci-fi and historical fiction titles popular on BookTok and Bookstagram. Titles on its website include Fourth Wing, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, The Hunger Games, Mistborn, Dune, The Housemaid, Circe and Pride and Prejudice, among others. If yours is missing, you can request it in the app.
If you are on the two-week trial, spend the first day checking all your stalled books at once, so you know which ones it can help with before the window closes.
Which book to spend the free credit on
If you only get one free book, spend it where the gap is longest and the cast is biggest. A thriller you stopped two days ago probably does not need a recap; a 600-page fantasy you left three months ago at page 250 does. That is also the book where a wiki is most likely to spoil you, so a page-locked recap is worth the most there.
Alternatives that cost nothing
If your book is a Kindle ebook covered by Story So Far, that recap is free with the book; see who gets it. For any book, a paper cast list and a one-line note per session are free and spoiler-proof, just slower.
